Highly regarded for its accessible writing and practical case studies, Control Systems Engineering is the most widely adopted textbook for this core... course in Mechanical and Electrical engineering programs. This new sixth edition has been revised and updated with 20% new problems and greater emphasis on computer-aided design.Close the loop between your lectures and the lab!Integrated throughout the Nise text are 10 virtual experiments, which enable students to implement the design-simulate-prototype workflow of practicing engineers. Powered by LabVIEW software and simulations of Quanser’s lab plants, the virtual labs enable students to apply concepts to virtual systems, implement control solutions and evaluate their results. The virtual labs deepen the homework learning experience and prepare students to make more effective use of their time in the lab. Empower your students to take control of their learning with virtual labs accessible anywhere internet is available!Visit www.quansercontrollabs.com for additional information related to Quanser.

Motivate Students with Real-World Control Systems Emphasizing the practical application of control systems engineering, this 3rd edition with its... updated contents will motivate students to learn how to analyze and design feedback control systems that support today's advanced technology. Motivation is obtained through clear and complete explanations of how to design real-world systems. Topics are presented in a logical and progressive way that builds and supports understanding. Whenever possible, new concepts are first presented from a qualitative perspective to help students gain the insight needed to develop sound designs. Next, a detailed discussion of quantitative tools gives readers the ability to design parameters and configurations for systems they will encounter during their career. And with the use of MATLAB(r), students will find out how to apply the latest computer methods to the analysis and design of control systems. Key Features of the Third Edition* Case studies, using the same system progressively, are integrated throughout the text to provide students with a realistic view of each stage of the control system design process.* A methodology with clearly defined steps is presented for each type of design problem.* Numerous in-chapter examples and skill-assessment exercises, as well as end-of-chapter review questions and problems, including a progressive analysis and design problem that uses the same system, are provided.* An introduction to state-space methods of analysis and design is included. These sections are clearly marked and can be taught along with classical methods, taught separately, or skipped without loss of continuity.* Tutorials are provided on how to use MATLAB(r), the Control System Toolbox, Simulink(r), and the Symbolic Math Toolbox to analyze and design control systems. Also included are tutorials on how to use two MATLAB(r) graphical user interface (GUI) design and analysis tools - the LTI Viewer and the Root Locus Design GUI. All tutorials and MATLAB(r) code are contained in the text's appendices so as not to detract from the teaching of control systems engineering principles. References to these appendices are provided at appropriate places in the text.* An accompanying CD-ROM provides valuable additional material, such as stand-alone computer applications, electronic files of the text's computer programs for use with MATLAB(r), additional appendices, and solutions to skill-assessment exercises.* Illustrations from the book in the form of electronic files are available at http://www.wiley.com/college/nise

Control Systems Engineering, now in its Fifth Edition, takes a practical approach to control systems engineering. Presenting clear and complete... explanations, the text shows you how to analyze and design feedback control systems that support today's modern technology.By working with the same physical system in each chapter, the book's progressive case studies give you a realistic view of each stage of the control design process while a combination of qualitative and quantitative explanations provide insight into the design of parameters and system configurations. Best of all, you'll get extensive practice in using MATLAB, Simulink, and the SISO Design Tool--industry standards that you will use in your future career.

This book presents All of the major topics in modern analog and digital control systems, along with the practical, applications oriented knowledge... and skills needed by technicians. It contains user-friendly conceptual explanations and clearly written mathematical developments. Examples of both Mathcad and MATLAB illustrate computer problem solving—but this book emphasizes the ability to use any suitable software to achieve successful results in solving problems and performing design. Chapter topics include Measurement; Laplace Transforms; Control System Models; Static and Dynamic Response; Stability; Frequency Response Analysis; Root Locus; State Variable Analysis; Introduction to Discrete Control Systems; Z-Transforms and Discrete State-Space Analysis; Digital Signal Representations; Discrete Time Control Systems; Stability of Discrete Control Systems; and Advanced Topics in Control Systems. For engineers and technicians working for companies that integrate control systems with the use of programmable logic controllers.

This textbook provides a tutorial introduction to behavioral applications of control theory. Control theory describes the information one should be... sensitive to and the pattern of influence that one should exert on a dynamic system in order to achieve a goal. As such, it is applicable to various forms of dynamic behavior. The book primarily deals with manual control (e.g., moving the cursor on a computer screen, lifting an object, hitting a ball, driving a car), both as a substantive area of study and as a useful perspective for approaching control theory. It is the experience of the authors that by imagining themselves as part of a manual control system, students are better able to learn numerous concepts in this field. Topics include varieties of control theory, such as classical, optimal, fuzzy, adaptive, and learning control, as well as perception and decision making in dynamic contexts. The authors also discuss implications of control theory for how experiments can be conducted in the behavioral sciences. In each of these areas they have provided brief essays intended to convey key concepts that enable the reader to more easily pursue additional readings. Behavioral scientists teaching control courses will be very interested in this book.
