Cost Management" was written in response to changes in the global business environment. Unbridled access to information and intense competition has... meant that cost accounting has become an increasingly important tool for managers and accountants alike. Most textbooks focus on content knowledge and then expect students to 'magically' demonstrate skills such as decision-making and critical thinking. "Cost Management" better prepares students for professional success by bridging the gaps between Knowledge, Skills and Abilities. Many students fail to recognize the assumptions, limitations, behavioral implications and qualitative factors that influence managerial decision-making. The dynamic, new author team focuses on cost accounting methods, techniques and the quality of cost accounting information used for decision-making to deliver a thoroughly modern treatment of cost accounting topics.

Hilton/Maher/Selto (HMS) is for instructors who want to teach students to manage costs and not just account for costs. HMS maintains that, “Costs... don’t just happen,” and with a pro-active approach toward costs, managers who understand cost implications as well as accountants can add value to an organization. Hilton, Maher, Selto focuses on having students learn to make decisions by the use of Cost Management Challenges in the chapter opener, “You’re the Decision Maker” boxes throughout each chapter, and the “You’re the Decision Maker” simulation on the text website.

HMS... maintains that, "Costs don’t just happen," and with a pro-active approach toward costs, accountants can add value to an organization. The real-world approach of this text, including the use of focus companies and the accompanying focus sites, provides a realistic business environment, and aids in student comprehension and interest in the subject.

Originally an addition to the end of the "Psalter" or "Book of Psalms", the first separate "Book of Hours" known in England was attributed to the artist... William de Brailes between 1230 and 1260. By the end of the 13th century the "Book of Hours" had become a favourite prayerbook of ordinary people throughout Western Europe and in the years that followed its popularity spread. Often small and highly decorated, these books provide an insight into the daily life of the Middle Ages. This book brings together examples, many of them reproduced in their original size. The pages are grouped in their standard sections and positioned in the order in which they would have appeared in a traditional "Book of Hours". Short texts provide an explanation of the scenes depicted and the significance of the various prayers and devotions.

"They don't make paperbacks more attractive and more colorful than this one."—Philadelphia InquirerFrom the momentous invention of the needle some... 40,000 years ago to the development of blue denim; from Neolithic weavers to the biggest names in the fashion industry today—this classic guide covers the landmarks of costume history, the forms and materials used through the ages, as well as the underlying motives of fashion and the ways in which clothes have been used to protect, to express identity, and to attract or to influence others. The concluding chapter by Amy de la Haye, covering the second half of the twentieth century, has now been updated by Andrew Tucker. He discusses the reinvention in the 1990s of the luxury label Gucci, the rise of houses such as Prada and Tommy Hilfiger, and the appointments of relatively avant-garde British, American, and European designers to head classic French houses. All the late-twentieth-century and turn-of-the-century style innovations are included, such as the appropriation of utility clothing by designers like Helmut Lang—who spearheaded the predominantly unisex urban sportswear look—and the impact of workplace dressing down on masculine fashion. The phenomenon of the must-have accessory—the pashmina shawl and the Fendi baguette, for example—is also considered. 345 illustrations, 80 in color
