Biller integrates research about exercise, nutrition, and health within an applied developmental psychological framework. Readers are presented with... ways of making fitness an enjoyable and positive force in their daily lives. Although a major focus is on how to get in shape, Biller's primary mission is to encourage a healthy lifestyle that enriches self-awareness and personal growth. The goal is not just to facilitate physical fitness, but to enhance overall life satisfaction. The book's uniqueness, accordingly, lies in its ability to help individuals develop a creative, playful approach to fitness in all spheres of their lives. While some readers are just beginning to think about fitness because of a desire to lose weight and improve their appearance, others are more interested in refining their athletic skills or achieving a greater balance in their daily activities. Dedicated exercisers often are striving for new routines and ways to prevent burnout. Many parents, moreover, are searching for activities to help their children, as well as themselves, become more fit. Older individuals are especially likely to be concerned about staying healthy and avoiding physical dependence as they age. Biller speaks to all these concerns—and all these groups—by providing an approach to getting in shape that enriches self-understanding and mental vitality.

The complete guide to identifying, measuring, promoting and applying creativity! Thriving in today's fast-changing world requires unprecedented... creativity--in business, and in every facet of life. This book makes the reader consider: How creative are you? How can you be more creative? Creative Intelligencehas the answers. Alan J. Rowe shows readers how to understand exactly what creativity is, identify it, measure it, promote it and apply it more effectively. Rowe begins by presenting the four ways in which creativity manifests itself: intuition, innovation, imagination and inspirational leadership. Next, he introduces the Creative Potential Profile, an exclusive, systematic test for measuring creativity that is already used by the Irish government and many other high-profile organizations worldwide. Drawing on the latest research, Rowe identifies commonalities amongst highly creative individuals, then identifies powerful strategies for tapping into your hidden creative potential. He shows why most organizations suppress creativity, and offers comprehensive strategies for attracting more creative people to your organization and unleashing the creativity of everyone who's already there. In the 1990s, Daniel Goleman popularized "emotional intelligence," a concept that resonated with our long-held intuitions about human beings, while offering powerful new insights for action. Creative Intelligencewill do the same for THIS decade.

How did the Depression-era folk-song collector Alan Lomax end up with a songwriting credit on Jay-Z’s song “Takeover”? Why doesn’t Clyde... Stubblefield, the primary drummer on James Brown recordings from the late 1960s such as “Funky Drummer” and “Cold Sweat,” get paid for other musicians’ frequent use of the beats he performed on those songs? The music industry’s approach to digital sampling—the act of incorporating snippets of existing recordings into new ones—holds the answers. Exploring the complexities and contradictions in how samples are licensed, Kembrew McLeod and Peter DiCola interviewed more than 100 musicians, managers, lawyers, industry professionals, journalists, and scholars. Based on those interviews, Creative License puts digital sampling into historical, cultural, and legal context. It describes hip-hop during its sample-heavy golden age in the 1980s and early 1990s, the lawsuits that shaped U.S. copyright law on sampling, and the labyrinthine licensing process that musicians must now navigate. The authors argue that the current system for licensing samples is inefficient and limits creativity. For instance, by estimating the present-day licensing fees for the Beastie Boys’ Paul’s Boutique (1989) and Public Enemy’s Fear of a Black Planet (1990), two albums from hip-hop’s golden age, the authors show that neither album could be released commercially today. Observing that the same dynamics that create problems for remixers now reverberate throughout all culture industries, the authors conclude by examining ideas for reform.Interviewees include David Byrne, Cee Lo Green, George Clinton, De La Soul, DJ Premier, DJ Qbert, Eclectic Method, El-P, Girl Talk, Matmos, Mix Master Mike, Negativland, Public Enemy, RZA, Clyde Stubblefield, T.S. Monk.
