Takes a gentle approach to learning data structures using the Java programming language. Providing an early, self-contained review of... object-oriented programming and Java, this text gives readers a firm grasp of key concepts and allows those experienced in another language to adjust easily. It has a solid foundation in building and using abstract data types, along with an assortment of advanced topics such as B-trees for project building and graph. It incorporates Java 5.0 including the use of scanner class and generic data types (generics). MARKET: This book is if for anyone interested in learning how to write effective data structures using the Java language.

Data Structures and Problem Solving Using C++ provides a practical introduction to data structures and algorithms from the viewpoint of abstract... thinking and problem solving, as well as the use of C++. It is a complete revision of Weiss' successful CS2 book Algorithms, Data Structures, and Problem Solving with C++. The most unique aspect of this text is the clear separation of the interface and implementation. C++ allows the programmer to write the interface and implementation separately, to place them in separate files and compile separately, and to hide the implementation details. This book goes a step further: the interface and implementation are discussed in separate parts of the book. Part I (Objects and C++), Part II (Algorithms and Building Blocks), and Part III (Applications) lay the groundwork by discussing basic concepts and tools and providing some practical examples, but implementation of data structures is not shown until Part IV (Implementations). This separation of interface and implementation promotes abstract thinking. Class interfaces are written and used before the implementation is known, forcing the reader to think about the functionality and potential efficiency of the various data structures (e.g., hash tables are written well before the hash table is implemented). Throughout the book, Weiss has included the latest features of the C++ programming language, including a more prevalent use of the Standard Template Library (STL).

Progressing from the concrete to the abstract — and using numerous, substantial case studies and sample programs — this book explores structured... problem solving, data abstraction, software engineering principles, and the comparative analysis of algorithms as fundamental tools of program design. The book and all programs have been completely written from the Object-Oriented perspective. Uses the C++ programming language throughout. Briefly reviews the syntax of C++ and provides a brief introduction to the language. The book is native C++ making full use of C++ features and object-oriented programming. Discusses major principles of software engineering and applies them to large programming projects. Covers several more advanced, modern topics, e.g.: Splay trees, Red-black trees, Amortized algorithm analysis.

Using only practically useful techniques, this book teaches methods for organizing, reorganizing, exploring, and retrieving data in digital computers,... and the mathematical analysis of those techniques. The authors present analyses that are relatively brief and non-technical but illuminate the important performance characteristics of the algorithms. Data Structures and Their Algorithms covers algorithms, not the expression of algorithms in the syntax of particular programming languages. The authors have adopted a pseudocode notation that is readily understandable to programmers but has a simple syntax.

Instead of emphasizing the underlying mathematics to get programmers to build their own data structures, Collins enables them to manipulate existing... structures in the Java Collections Library. This allows them to learn through coding rather than by doing proofs. 23 lab projects and hundreds of programming examples are integrated throughout the pages to build their intuition. The approach this book takes helps programmers quickly learn the concepts that underlie data structures.

This new text makes it simple for beginning computer science students to design algorithms first using pseudocode and then build them using the C++... programming language. Based on Gilberg and Forouzan's successful text, Data Structures: A Pseudocode Approach with C, this new book emphasizes a practical approach to data structures.

Data structures is concerned with the storage, representation and manipulation of data in a computer. In this book, we discuss some of the more... versatile and popular data structures used to solve a variety of useful problems. Among the topics are linked lists, stacks, queues, trees, graphs, sorting and hashing.

Timothy Budd takes an exciting new approach to teaching data structures by incorporating the power of the Standard Template Library (STL). This book... represents a reversal of the traditional presentation. Before concentrating on writing programs, Dr. Budd emphasizes how to use a standard abstraction. Working with this standard library, students will master the fundamentals of data structures and learn the power of C++, allowing them to carry their knowledge to later courses and into their careers. While the major topics have remained similar to the author's earlier book, Classic Data Structures in C++, the implementations have been completely revised. Since data structures are assumed to exist in the programming environment from the start, the presence of the STL permits reordering of topics within each chapter.

This book focus is on the design of data structures and takes the reader through the design phase of developing the ADTs in abstract terms, then... developing the methods, discussing the alternatives and potential pitfalls. Each collection type is presented as an Abstract Data Type(ADT) and then tested before implementation. There is extensive use of UML and all collections developed are designed to work within the Java Collections Framework(JCF). Readers who want to become independent problem-solvers and master abstraction, software testing and object-oriented concepts.

This innovative new book encourages readers to utilize the “Outside-In” approach to learning the use, design and implementation of data structures.... The author introduces every data structure by first narrating its properties and use in applications (the "outside" view). This provides a clear introduction to data structures with realistic context where it is used. Venugopal then details how to build data structures (the "inside" view); readers learn how to evaluate usability, flexibility, extensibility, and performance in designing and implementing classic data structures.

Written in an engaging and informal style, Data Structures Using Java facilitates a student's transition from simple programs in the first semester... introductory programming course to more sophisticated, efficient, and effective programs in the second semester data structures course. Without delving too deeply into the details of Java, the author emphasizes the importance of effective organization and management of data and the importance of writing programs in a modern, object-oriented style. Designed to correlate with the curricular guidelines of the ACM/IEEE Computer Science Curriculum 2008, Data Structures Using Java introduces students to the more advanced concepts of writing programs but is still accessible to non-computer science majors. Believing that learning how to design and write programs requires hands-on application of concepts, the author includes labs throughout the text for students to immediately apply and test the newly learned material. The accessible writing style and hands-on approach of Data Structures Using Java, will provide your students with the skills necessary to design and use algorithms and data structures in their programming careers in an uncluttered environment, and efficient manner.
