Many students find the array of structural types displayed by d-block metal complexes somewhat bewildering when they encounter them for the first time. ... In this primer, Mark Winter uses clear text and consistently presented molecular structures to help overcome this problem and to provide a concise text for first courses in transition metal chemistry. His student-friendly approach will make the subject more accessible for many, and the clear progression of chemistry employed lays the foundations for more advanced courses at a later date.

"The DC:0-3 Casebook" complements DC:0-3 by helping professionals from all disciplines put DC:0-3's diagnostic system into practice. Twenty-four... detailed case reports, documenting work with children (ages 6 months to 4-1/2 years) and their families, show how highly experienced practitioners from a range of disciplines use Zero to Three's DC:0-3. Settings for these cases include infant mental health clinics, paediatric primary care settings, early intervention programs, private multidisciplinary practices, consultation to child care and education settings, and the child welfare system. Each case study illustrates a different DC: 0-3 diagnostic category, taking readers step-by-step through the process of referral, assessment, diagnosis, discussion of the diagnosis and treatment planning with the child's family and caregivers, intervention, prognosis, and discussion and reflection.

The first in Delmar Learning's Herrick & Jacob Series, six tightly integrated electronics engineering technology texts, DC/AC Circuits and... Electronics: Principles & Applications teaches readers how to apply basic laws and analysis techniques to traditional introductory circuits, as well as popular, real-world DC and AC circuits. Central to this book is its ability to engage readers who are new to the study of electronics in interesting and useful concepts from the start, guiding them in their efforts to learn how to develop and apply fundamental laws. Throughout the book, only those circuit theorems and analysis techniques that are practical and typically used in real-world circuit analysis are addressed. In addition, Kirchhoff's Current Law, Kirchhoff's Voltage Law and Ohm's Law are introduced in separate, stand-alone chapters to ensure that the reader has a complete understanding of each law before attempting to apply all or part to traditional series and parallel circuits. Level and rigor make this book an ideal choice for use in programs accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). In addition, the same circuits presented in DC/AC Circuits and Electronics: Principles & Applications also appear in subsequent books in this series, encouraging readers to enlarge the envelope of performance and revisit techniques as they gain increasingly sophisticated knowledge of circuit theories and operations.

Praised for its ability to kill insects effectively and cheaply and reviled as an ecological hazard, DDT continues to engender passion across the... political spectrum as one of the world's most controversial chemical pesticides. In DDT and the American Century, David Kinkela chronicles the use of DDT around the world from 1941 to the present with a particular focus on the United States, which has played a critical role in encouraging the global use of the pesticide. The banning of DDT in the United States in 1972 is generally regarded as a signal triumph for the American environmental movement. Yet DDT's function as a tool of U.S. foreign policy and its use in international development projects designed to solve problems of disease and famine made it an integral component of the so-called American Century. The varying ways in which scientists, philanthropic foundations, corporations, national governments, and transnational institutions assessed and adjudicated the balance of risks and benefits of DDT within and beyond America's borders, Kinkela argues, demonstrates the gap that existed between global and U.S. perspectives on DDT. DDT and the American Century offers a unique approach to understanding modern environmentalism in a global context.

No single event played a greater role in the birth of modern environmentalism than the publication of Rachel Carson's "Silent Spring" and its assault on... insecticides. This collection of documents, the first of its kind, traces shifting attitudes toward DDT and pesticides in general through a variety of sources: excerpts from scientific studies and government reports, advertisements from industry journals, articles from popular magazines, and the famous "Fable for Tomorrow" from "Silent Spring".Beginning with attitudes toward nature at the turn of the twentieth century, the book moves through the use and early regulation of pesticides; the introduction and early success of DDT; the discovery of its environmental effects; and the uproar over "Silent Spring". It ends with recent debates about DDT as a potential solution to malaria in Africa. These texts allow readers to see how scientists, pesticide manufacturers, conservationists, and ordinary citizens approached this issue and how profoundly their attitudes changed from the 1890s to the present. Thomas Dunlap is professor of history at Texas A & M University. He is the author of four books including "Faith in Nature: Environmentalism as Religious Quest" and "DDT: Scientists, Citizens, and Public Policy".
