This exciting first edition provides more depth than existing digital design books, using a traditional approach to the subject. Digital Principles and... Design contains introductory material in digital principles with emphasis on logic design, as well as more advanced material. With the exception of the digital circuits appendix, it assumes no background on the part of the reader. The text can be used by readers in computer science, computer engineering and electrical engineering. The emphasis in the book is on the thorough presentation of basic principles of logic design and the illustration of these principles. While many introductory texts only provide the mechanics of classical logic design, Givone provides justifications behind these procedures to give students the understanding they need for the advanced topics they will learn about in subsequent courses. Some of the topics that the book thoroughly presents include: the simplification of Boolean expressions with Karnaugh maps, variable-entered Karnaugh maps, and the analysis and design of both clocked synchronous sequential networks and asynchronous sequential networks. Every book contains a CD-ROM with Altera’s advanced MAX+plus II 10.1 Student Edition CAD system, as well as Multisim 2001 Textbook Edition from Electronics Workbench. An appendix and the book website provide additional resources on these software tools, as well as LogicWorks.

The act of creation requires us to remix existing cultural content and yet recent sweeping changes to copyright laws have criminalized the creative act... as a violation of corporate rights in a commodified world. Copyright was originally designed to protect publishers, not authors, and has now gained a stranglehold on our ability to transport, read, write, teach and publish digital materials. Contrasting Western models with issues of piracy as practiced in Asia, Digital Prohibition explores the concept of authorship as a capitalist institution and posits the Marxist idea of the multitude (à la Antonio Negri and Michael Hardt, and Paulo Virno) as a new collaborative model for creation in the digital age. Looking at how digital culture has transformed unitary authorship from its book-bound parameters into a collective and dispersed endeavor, Dr. Guertin examines process-based forms as diverse as blogs, Facebook, Twitter, performance art, immersive environments, smart mobs, hacktivism, tactical media, machinima, generative computer games (like Spore and The Sims) and augmented reality.

Practical and comprehensive, this resource offers up-to-date coverage of computed radiography, digital radiography, and PACS. It explores the... differences between conventional and digital imaging systems and how computed and digital radiography systems fit within the radiology department. State-of-the art information on image acquisition, exposure guidelines, and quality control help you obtain the best possible radiographs. You'll also learn about PACS workstations, archiving, film digitization, image printing, and more. For this revised reprint, we have updated Chapters 4, 5, 6, 7, and 12. In Chapter 4, revisions have been made to the Digitizing the Signal and Speed Class sections. In Chapter 5, revisions have been made to the Imaging Plate Selection, Grid Selection, and Automatic Data Recognition sections. In Chapter 6, the Indirect Conversion, CsI Detectors, Detective Quantum Efficiency, and Spatial Resolution sections have been revised. In Chapter 12, the Quality Control Standards section has been revised.Discusses the similarities and differences between conventional and digital systems.Introduces basic computer components and networking concepts for a solid foundation in the principles of computing.Provides balanced coverage of computed radiography (CR), digital radiography (DR), and PACS systems.Includes step-by-step guidance for acquiring, processing, and producing radiographic images using CR/DR technologies.Explores the CR/DR quality workstation, as well as advanced image processing and manipulation functions available on many of the latest CR/DR workstations.Offers complete coverage of PACS workstations, archiving solutions, and system architectures, including information on film digitization, printing images, and preparing image files.Provides comprehensive quality control and management guidelines for PACS, CR, and DR.Chapter objectives, chapter summaries, key terms, and review questions reinforce key concepts and help you retain and recall important information.

Digital Radiology: An Introduction for Technologists by Euclid Seeram is used for courses in radiographic imaging procedures, production, and exposure.... This book will be a supplemental reading book in the Radiographic Imaging course and will specifically supplement Carlton/Principles of Radiologic Imaging. The book can also be used as a supplement for courses that address digital imaging techniques, such as Radiologic Physics, Radiographic Equipment and Quality Control or a course on Radiographic Technique. This book is intended for Radiologic Technologists across the globe, to meet the needs of the change from film-based imaging to filmless imaging or DIGITAL IMAGING. This book will deal with a wide range of topics to address the needs of various professional Radiologic Technology Associations, such as the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT), the Canadian Association of Medical radiation Technologists, The College of Radiographers in the UK, and the Australian Society for Radiographers and therefore will be appropriate for our international sales force.

For this latest edition, the authors returned to Barbados to update the changing face of life in St. Lucy, the parish "behind God's back"--the island's... most rural district. After discussing Barbados's colonial history as a plantation society based on slavery and the economy's recent conversion from sugar to tourism, they turn to everyday life in St. Lucy: patterns of work, gender relations, religion, and the meaning of "community." The book concludes by examining the global forces and media--television, tourism, travel, and the Internet--that connect villagers to the outside and most directly affect their lives. Written with students in mind, this highly readable, illustrated, and thought-provoking account is ideal for courses in cultural anthropology and Caribbean studies. An appendix describes the changes North American students experienced as a result of participating in the anthropology field schools the authors ran in Barbados over a twenty-year period.

In a field overrun with outdated texts, "Digital Radio Production" offers a refreshing and much needed alternative. It is the only text on the market to... illuminate the world of radio as it exists in the 21st century, and to explore where radio is headed tomorrow - including an introduction to high definition radio, the next major radio transmission format. Written by an author with over 20 years of industry experience, the text speaks clearly to young people about practical realities (such as pursuing a first job in radio and creating an audition CD), while giving them solid production knowledge as well as realistic impression of the industry they may be considering for a career.
