España y los españoles de hoy: Historia, sociedad y cultura takes a comprehensive approach to the study of Spanish culture by looking at history,... society and culture with a primary emphasis on the 20th and 21st centuries. Divided into three parts, the first section looks to the 20th century to see how it shaped Spain today. It also includes an in-depth focus on modern Spanish society: family, birth rate, immigration, youth, customs, and cultural identity. It ends with an examination of culture in Spain, especially the arts. With content focused primarily on the past two centuries, students using España y los españoles de hoy receive a much more focused study of modern-day Spanish civilization and culture than they would with other books that provide basic overviews of the past two thousand years in Spain. España y los españoles de hoy balances history, society and culture, challenging the student at an intellectually advanced level. Appropriate for advanced courses in Spanish civilization and culture, España y los españoles de hoy can also be used in history, and anthropology, and Spanish study abroad programs.

Espanol en Vivo emphasizes the richness of Hispanic culture and the variations of authentic spoken Spanish. Through filmed interviews with more than... twenty native Spanish speakers, students are introduced to a variety of dialects that derive from differences in geographical area and other factors such as age, sex, ethnicity, and social status. The DVD contains forty-seven segments filmed in locations in Spain, Central America, and Latin America. Unrehearsed interviews with Spanish speakers deal with such aspects of life and culture as housing, family, the immigrant experience, cultural traditions, and politics. No other book or DVD presents the Spanish language in such a natural way, with speakers expressing themselves freely and using the real language of every day. Each of the book's twenty chapters focuses on an aspect of the life and culture of people from one of seven countries in the Spanish-speaking world. Transcripts of interviews from the DVD are included in the book, as are notes on vocabulary, pronunciation, idioms, and cultural issues. Questions are provided to guide students' comprehension of the DVD segments and direct their oral and written practice.

The objective of this book is to teach native speakers of Spanish how to write and use correctly their own language. This text is designed for Spanish... speakers who also know English. Current methodology in the teaching of Spanish to Spanish speakers is based on the belief that native speakers already know Spanish and that such students primarily need to polish their orthography. The book stresses traditional but advanced grammar as well as accentuation, orthography and the avoidance of anglicisms in vocabulary and sentence structure. It draws from the students' linguistic background in both languages in order to teach them Spanish.
