Previously only sold as the book 5000 Russian Words: With All Their Inflected Forms and Other Grammatical Information, A Russian-English Dictionary with... an English-Russian Word Index by Leed, ISBN 0-89357-170-9, this new book and software bundle now includes the invaluable handbook for people learning Russian plus the Russian Dictionary Tree software CD. This book and software packet is meant to serve as the go-to reference book for all learners and users of Russian, from beginning learners to veterans, in classes or studying on their own. Containing over 5000 entries, complete with all their inflected forms and other grammatical information, this book is an excellent compilation of the most common words used in written Russian. The accompanying software covers a longer list of words, going beyond the original printed book, and runs on both Mac and Windows systems.Compiled by the two linguists who (collectively) have been in charge of Cornell University's Russian Language program for over forty years, this 17,000-entry learner's dictionary of Russian on CD-ROM was designed from the ground up as an electronic tool for English-speaking students. It is a meticulously crafted reference source that takes into account the typical difficulties that challenge students in their first two years of study. With its first edition released over ten years ago, this dictionary has been continuously perfected and upgraded through this 2009 version for Microsoft Windows (including Vista) and Mac OS (including 10.5 Leopard). In this unique tool, any inflected form of a Russian word can be searched for--you don't have to know the dictionary form. Searching by English glosses is also available. All forms of the word, with stress marks, are displayed: at least 80% of the entries include complete inflectional information--every ending spelled out, including deverbal forms as well as all gender and case forms for adjectives (even short forms and comparatives). Concise morphology information is also provided so the students can test their understanding of how the forms are produced. The definitions (in English) are very detailed, and thousands of example sentences are included to show government patterns for all verbs and prepositions, as well as those nouns and adjectives that have syntactic requirements. The Russian Dictionary Tree by Richard L. Leed and Slava Paperno is a greatly expanded version of the early book version, which was called '...a first-rate work...' (Russian Language Journal), '...a dictionary of the highest quality...' (review in Slavic and East European Journal).

This book is published in response to the Quincentennial celebration of Columbus's arrival and its lies. We offer a book that tells the real story of La... Raza and other truths so long denied. This book also asks a question: after 500 years do Chicanos, Mexican Americans, mexicanos, Raza, whatever we call ourselves, have anything to celebrate? Our answer is yes: we have much to celebrate. And so this book speaks with grief and bitter truth but also joy and pride.

If you are looking for a book to give to a teenage reader, here's the reference you've been waiting for. Until now, there's been no accepted guide to... what's good, bad, or indifferent in the flood of books coming off the presses in the hot new category of young-adult publishing. If it's true that you can't judge a book by its cover, it is especially true for teen books, as publishers take aim at a new class of readers. The books land on shelves without a history, and so there is no standard by which to judge them.Anita Silvey, one of the country's leading authorities on books for young people, has interviewed teenage readers all over the country and immersed herself in young-adult books, with an emphasis on books published in the last five years. The result is this invaluable and very readable guide for parents, teachers, librarians, booksellers, reading groups, and of course teens themselves. With its extended essays describing 500 selections, parents will quickly see what their teenagers are actually reading -- and will be able to find good books to introduce them to. Teachers can spot excellent additions to summer reading lists. Booksellers can move customers from one favorite to a host of others in the same genre. Librarians can round out collections. Book groups -- for adults, teens, or both -- will have hundreds of new titles to consider.500 Great Books for Teens is divided into twenty-one sections, including adventure and survival, politics and social history, horror, romance, war and conflict, fantasy, plays, graphic novels, poetry, memoir, and spirituality. Every section offers up classics, but the majority of titles are new. In "Beyond the 500," Silvey compiles a number of useful lists, including books organized by geographic location and historical period, as well as recommended audio books.
